It has now been confirmed that the contactless payment limit, which allows consumers to pay for goods and services without the need to enter their pin, will increase from the current level of £45, to £100 from 15th October.

UK Finance, who represent around 300 firms in the banking and finance industry, have said it will take some time for the new limit to apply across all retailers due to the number of terminals which will need to be updated.

In the meantime, you can already pay with secure systems such as Apple Pay using a watch, smartphone or similar, usually without limit in the UK when authenticated with biometric technologies such as fingerprint or facial recognition.
